Night Comer| Sarah Nichols

You enter these woods

Like any nocturnal animal:

alone, scattered

your hunger announcing itself

And swallowing, for swallowing’s sake

A lifetime of bird-songs and screams

That ask us to walk into this

Deadfall wearing dresses of ropes

And knives, never to be known again, but calling it

When we dream of it

Beauty
